The Classic Spring Theatre Company celebrates the life and works of Oscar Wilde
with this debut offering from former Shakespeare’s Globe artistic director,
Dominic Dromgoole.

Touted as the “Oscar Wilde Season”, this event features exciting performances
of Wilde’s four sensational Victorian plays; all of which have secured the
legendary Irish playwright, novelist, and poet’s rightful place in the history
of English literature. The repertoire includes A Woman of No Importance
which starts the Season off in October 2017. Next in line is the four-act satirical
comedy Lady Windermere’s Fan, set to show at the Vaudeville Theatre from
January 12 to April 7. First performed in 1892, Lady Windermere’s Fan is the
work that gave Wilde his first theatrical success.

A Summary:

On the night of her birthday, Lady Windermere is devastated by the bad news
from her friends, Lord Darlington and the Duchess of Berwick: her good
husband, Lord Windermere, is having an affair with the infamous widow
Mrs. Erlynne.
She then confronts Lord Windemere, only to be asked a preposterous favor: to
invite Mrs. Erlynne to her birthday party. Lady Windermere refuses to do so.
Nevertheless, Mrs. Erlynne arrives and stirs up chatter and a healthy dose of
scandal among the other guests. Lady Windermere decides to break the marriage
and go to Lord Darlington, who had declared his love for her. Surprisingly,
Mrs. Erlynne urges Lady Windermere to go back to her husband—but why?
And who is this enigmatic Mrs. Erlynne?

Witness the drama as it unfolds onstage, brought to life by award-winning
director Kathy Burke and a high-calibre cast led by Samantha Spiro,
Kevin Bishop, and Jennifer Saunders. The play throws into question the
society’s preconceived standards of morality and femininity—an issue that’s
still relevant even nowadays—which makes Lady Windermere’s Fan humorous,
cathartic, and thought-provoking all at the same time.
If you are thinking of taking a break and seeing the play for yourself, book a
stay in holiday apartments near Oxford Street. It will only take you about fifteen
minutes (via underground) to around half an hour (by car) to get to the Vaudeville
Theatre from there. You and your loved ones can also spend a few hours prior to
the event in short let apartments in Central London.
Be sure not to miss out on this timeless masterpiece!
